Our School
THE HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
The school at Chilthorne Domer opened on December 4th 1871, as The District National School, it had 26 pupils (10 boys and 16 girls). It was built to replace a Church Sponsored Sunday School previously held in a nearby cottage attached to the Old Rectory. The first master - Mr G. W. Rutt was appointed on a salary of £40 per annum '…. to provide education for the children of the parishes of Chilthorne Domer and Thorne Coffin'.

School numbers rose to about 50 at the time of the First World war and then fluctuated between 60 and 80 as 2 additional classrooms were added. The reclassification of the school to Voluntary Controlled Church of England Primary School happened in 1950. Further recent changes in educational policy have led to the addition of a fourth classroom, and numbers are presently around 115.

THE SCHOOL BACKGROUND
Chilthorne Domer Church School aims to develop strong links with the wider community. The children take part in many activities in the nearby town of Yeovil and work closely with the staff of the Feeder Schools. As a school we attend many sporting activities. We also have active and regular links with St Mary's Church, Chilthorne Domer.

We welcome the interest and support of parents in all aspects of the school life. We aim to keep you well informed about your child's education so that we develop a partnership between home and school.

You are encouraged to keep in regular contact with your child's class teacher and to 'pop in' for a quick word now and again at the end of school. Teachers will always be pleased to spare a few moments, unless they have other engagements. If you would prefer a longer discussion with the teacher, this can always be arranged.

Formal consultations with parents take place each term when children's progress is discussed. All children receive an end of year report from their teacher.

It is important that you keep the school informed of any important changes that may affect your child. Please let us know promptly about any medical, physical or emotional difficulties and advise us of changes of address, telephone number, contact/childminder, etc.

Our aim is to provide equal opportunities for all children. We recognise how important it is for each individual to have a positive perception of their role in life and the possibilities open to them.

Chilthorne Domer Church School is a school for children between the ages of four and eleven years. As a voluntary controlled school the Church of England is represented on the Governing Body.

We hope this prospectus is useful and informative. If you have any questions about our school we are always willing to help and inform you, so please ask us.
