Dear Parents
Its already the end of another busy half-term. It seems to have flown by and I can hardly believe that we are heading towards the end of the school year already.
Congratulations to the school football and netball teams who represented the school at the Birchfield tournament last Thursday. Even though we were placed in the large schools groupings, the children played with motivation and vigour and were all a credit to the school. It was a privilege to watch. This was followed by the Martock tournament on Saturday where the football team took a fantastic third place against fierce opposition.
Sport is really taking off at Chilthorne and it was lovely to be with the Year 5/6 cricket team on Thursday afternoon at the ‘Chance to Shine’ cricket festival. The school team sailed into an impressive third place, losing just one match to the eventual winners. They even beat the team from Preston Comp. to secure their position. Sixes from Mark Clementé and Jordon Higgins (both Year Six) impressed the spectators.
Today’s sponsored walk was great fun and I’m sure has raised a great deal of money for the victims of the Tsunami, through your support of the Piers Simon Appeal. Thanks to all of you for your fund-raising and in particular to Louise Knight for the her continued hard work in aid of this very deserving cause.
Pokemon cards have had to be banned at school for the time being. Children are so keen to play with their cards that some are trying to play with them in class! They are also causing arguments between children with disputes over swaps and the inevitable ‘He’s got my Pikachu!’ J If children bring the cards to school they will be kept by the teacher until the end of the school day, when they will be returned.
Please ensure your children have correct uniform for the next school term. When the children are dressed in more ‘casual’ clothes, it really does have a negative affect on their attitude and behaviour at school. Correct uniform is:
For PE we also think that uniform is very important. Having the correct kit helps the children to feel part of a team, it also helps them to feel proud of being a member of our school. Correct PE kit is:
In the summer months the children will need a sun hat and sun cream as well.
On wet days the children should come to school with a waterproof coat.
A full selection of school uniform is available from the National Schoolwear Centre in Yeovil and many parents tell me that ASDA and TESCO sell very reasonably priced school trousers and shirts.
The children have really worked hard this term and we are very proud of their achievements. Next term will be just as educational, but will also include a number of exciting projects to make the children’s learning extra-enjoyable over the summer months.
I hope that you enjoy
your children over the half-term break and look forward to working with you
through the summer term.
Yours sincerely
S Biddles
