Dear Parents
Thank you to all
of you who have returned sponsor money for the Piers Simon Appeal. The school has raised over
one thousand pounds which will be put to excellent use by the Appeal to help
those people devastated by last year’s Tsunami. Mr Henry Simon came to school
today to collect the cheque in person and commented on the wonderful support
given by the children, parents and staff of the school.
Last Thursday’s
drumming day
was hugely popular with children and staff alike. The children experienced a
range of different style drums from other cultures and all children were able
to take part in a musical performance. It was truly spectacular to see the
results achieved in just one day. Ben Croft (who ran the day for us) has
written to me to say what a pleasure it was to come to the school. He commented
on the high standard of behaviour he encountered and on the fact that the
children were so musically able. He was very impressed!
If your child would like to take drumming lessons, the
school can arrange for these to take place during the school day. Costs are £15
per hour for 1:1 tuition using a traditional ‘rock’ drum kit, or around £7 per
hour for a group session working with traditional African drums on rhythm and
performance. If you are interested in either of these options please let either
Mrs Kneebone or Mrs Mitchell in the office know and we will arrange for Ben to
contact you directly.
More musical
tuition is available through school. There are vacancies for children who wish to learn to
play the piano as from September and if your child is keen to take up flute
lessons we can arrange this for you. For more information please contact the
office.
The government
is keen to collect data on weight and height and as such has arranged for NHS professionals
to come into school later in this term (the date has not yet been confirmed) to
measure and weigh (only) the Year Six and Reception children. You do not have
to consent to this taking place, but if you do not complete and return the
attached form it will be taken that you have no objections. Please return the form if you do not wish your child
to be weighed or measured. The NHS standard letter is also attached for your
information.
Sports’ Day is
next Thursday
weather permitting at 1.30pm. As usual there will be a mixture of formal
running races as well as team events. We have listened to your comments from
last year and have split the teams into two groups so that the children will
have a bit more time to take part in the activities, although I know you
appreciate how hard it can be to ensure that the children have the right
balance of doing and resting, especially in this hot weather.
Please can the children have their correct PE kit
(white T-shirt, blue/black shorts, daps) in school on both Tuesday and Thursday
of next week, for practise and for the actual sports.
On Saturday the
Country Dance Group will be at Wells taking part in the country dance festival. We aim to
be at Wells by around 1pm. If you want a lovely day out and enjoy your folk
dancing, why not come along!
